It'd been stuck in her head for days and Audrey kind of hated herself for it. It wasn't The Weepies' fault, but I Gotta Have You was kind of ruined for her ever since she'd sung it to Ed over the phone. Now it just reminded her of him, which, in turn, reminded her of the whole mess she'd gotten into. Whether or not he did have feelings for her and whether or not she had feelings for him, everything was all screwed up.

But at least she had a warm afternoon and her guitar. Sitting out on the steps of her RV, Audrey plucked out the melody. Maybe she could work out the demons with music. It'd gone okay before. "Gray, quiet and tired and mean, picking at a worried seam," she sang softly, mostly to her guitar than anyone else. "I try to make you mad at me over the phone."

Mostly, she just felt kind of sad.

It's a nice warm day, the first one that really feels free of any lingering winter. Feeling celebratory (and slightly evil), Audrey'd headed to the park with her ukelele on her back and some snacks from Quill. Foreshadowing her song for the day, Audrey got a few scones and a large cup of their best house blend. Then she'd spread a blanket on the ground and sat there tuning her ukelele for a while.

"I woke up this morning...I had a scone and a large house blend...And then a little conversation with my squirrel and chipmunk friends..."

Then she'd started to sing a pleasant tune, enjoying the way that people first smiled and then frowned as they realized Audrey's song wasn't, in fact, a paean to the coming spring but Jonathan Coulton's First of May.

"It's the First of May! First of May! Outdoor fuckin' starts today!" she sings with gusto, enjoying the mix of snickering and horror.

And really, if someone complained, she could just switch to his version of Baby Got Back.

[[Needless to say, both songs are INCREDIBLY NSFW and also hilarious.]]

She's got a decent set tonight for Diwata. Easy, midtempo songs with a couple bursts of speed, good fun stuff for the people who came in for a beer and some fries off the highway just a few miles outside of Siren Cove proper. At this point, they know themselves well enough to follow a list but to also mix it up and improvise.

"So glad you all made it tonight," she says into the microphone, voice soft and maybe a little seductive without quite Compelling. "This next song was written for a man--" she pauses, letting the people who are listening get their giggles in. "A man who...changed my life completely." When she's vague, it almost sounds romantic instead of actually being a song about catharsis, about trying to figure out why she'd slept with her professor and how it had sent her running.

"One track mind like a goldfish, stuck inside my petri dish..." It's almost upbeat and if they aren't listening, an audience doesn't realize the lost numbness of a disastrous first year of college and the sense of being so very lost.

But that's what music is for. She writes songs to let her own past go and let herself live with the few secrets she does keep.

And it pays. She gets free dinner and free beer, plus some pretty solid cash. The audience isn't half-bad either. By the time they wrap up, people are actually hollering for an encore, which makes them all grin and rack their brains for an easy, quick song. Audrey quickly strums her guitar, going to a song that's been on her mind since she sang it for Ed on the phone. "Gray, quiet and tired and mean, picking at a worried seam, I try to make you mad at me over the phone..."

[[Catch her during a lull in the show or afterward, while she eats.]]

These days, Audrey can't buy comic books willy-nilly. Her camper's already a crazy mess as it is and a small space that doesn't really brook mile-high stacks of books, but Audrey still enjoys going into comic shops and going through the stacks to see if there's anything particularly interesting. Already, she knows she'll grab a couple blind-boxes because she loves her some super-heroes, maybe a t-shirt, but all in good time.

For now, she's just browsing through the trade paperbacks. Those are a little easier to justify since it's more condensed, plus she gets a little more bang for her buck.

"Hey, do you know if they have the new Captain Marvel trade yet?" she asks, vaguely in the direction of the cashier but open for any to answer.

Audrey's not entirely sure how she's managed it, but she fell asleep on the beach last night. It was just meant to be a breather, dipping her toes in the frigid water just long enough to wake herself up for the short drive back to her trailer park. Only the water had been extremely fucking cold, so cold she'd rippled up in orange scales and had to warm up the siren way just to get back to the sleeping bag she'd spread out to take a seat.

The plan had been to sit, warm up, wake up.

Which, in a manner of speaking, she's accomplished. After all she's very warm in her deep chill sleeping bag and she's mostly awake with the cold, gray morning light. "The fuck..." Audrey sits up and drags a hand down her face. "Well that sure is the fucking ocean..."

Good thing she's awake before high tide. That would have been more trouble than she'd been prepared to deal with.

Grumbling, she unzips the sleeping bag and carefully wills the orange scales away.

Audrey makes her home in the back of a disastrously messy Class C motor home, equipped with a bedroom and bathroom as well as a kitchenette and above-cab bed/storage. Her bedroom wall is decorated with a collection of ornate crucifixes.
